Oisin vs John Mitchels - Pennine League

Senior

Date: Monday 8th March 2010

Fielding only 3 of the senior 12 panel Oisin gave others in the squad a chance to impress the new management team. And many of them took the opportunity, in a high quality first half there were chances at both ends with the full forward lines of both teams revelling in the extra space afforded by the 13 a side requested by John Mitchells. The teams were level at half time and heading into the final quarter of the game only a point separated the teams. A misplaced pass inside the John Mitchells 21 spurned a great goal scoring opportunity, and as the Oisinís players visibly tired the men from Liverpool tagged on a run of points in the closing minutes of the game to put some daylight between the teams.

Best players on show were Traynor for Mitchells, who tormented the full back line all day and Coss for Oisin who gave his markers an equally torrid afternoon, who often resorted to means more foul than fair.

Despite the lack of fitness evident at the end, with great turnouts at training and with the return of many quality players and also the addition of some new players, the management are looking forward with great confidence to the season ahead.

Under 12

Date: Saturday 17th October 2009

Oisin GAA Under 12’s Retain Lancashire league

Oisin under 12’s retained their league title this year with an enthralling victory against St Mary’s at Turn Moss. St Mary’s scored first, Oisin responded with scores from Sean Neary and Declan Mallen. The lead swapped hands in the early stages as both teams pressed and took some great scores. As the half went on Oisin began to take control with Michael Dolan and Kory Rafferty battling to gain midfield supremacy. What they lacked in height they certainly gained in energy as they pressurised the St Mary’s midfield time and again. Oisin went into half time 5-1 to 2-2 up.

The second half started with Oisin taking an early score, but fair play to St Mary’s they came storming back and closed to within 2pts before Oisin went away again.
It was hard to keep up with the game at times as it went from end to end with both teams playing some tremendous football. Oisin finally took control of the game in the last 5 minutes as the St Mary’s lads tired. The Midfield pairing of Michael and Kory took a strangle hold with able help from Conor Kilcullen, Sean Neary, Sean Scally and Elliot Melody.

The back line of Collette Mitchell, Rory McCormack and Niall Broderick held firm and Jamie Stamper came on to help close the game out.

Without doubt one of the best underage games seen in the county for some time. Played in the right spirit with some tremendous skills on show. The 2 clubs have forged close links recently and both have very bright futures on this showing.

The former Lancashire Chairman Paddy Johnson was on hand to present the trophy to a delighted Sean Scally the Oisin captain.
